The Long Capture Way

There are two primary needs in the field:

  1. Companies looking for non-dilutive funding to diversify their revenue stream.
  2. The DoD looking to get the nation’s best technology into the hands of the warfighter.

We aim to connect these two needs to provide solutions—bettering businesses and strengthening the nation’s defense.

This then brings up the question:

How can a company go from zero government experience to regularly working with the DoD as a customer base?

For us, it’s all about the Long Game.

Success comes from more than just a single win—it is the compilation of multiple steps.

These five steps can play a huge role in a company’s transition to working with the federal government on a more regular basis; however, the process itself can be challenging.

That’s why we developed the Long Capture Way.

With over five years in the business, we know what the process for success entails. We offer a team of experts and a full-service model designed to take you through the process from launchpad to flight.

1

Develop Government Relationships

End users, TPOCs, Customer Memorandums—these are all relationships that can make or break your proposals. The inability to make these relationships also tends to be one of the biggest barriers to success for many companies. This is why it is important to get on this step quickly.
2

Achieve Sole-Source Authority

The first and most essential step to finding success with the government is to achieve sole-source authority. This can be achieved with a SBIR/STTR Phase I or Direct to Phase II award, and it opens the door to all other opportunities down this road.
3

Set Processes for Government Compliance

The logistics of doing business with the government can look a little different than it does in the commercial environment. It is important to be aware of these differences and operate appropriately, particularly as it pertains to tax credits and intellectual property.
4

Seek Additional Supplemental Funding

The transition from Phase I to Phase III can be tedious and require significant resources. Fortunately, there are many supplemental funding options, such as STRATFI/TACFI, to support companies in this transition by awarding additional dollars. During this transition, companies should actively seek these opportunities.
5

Pursue Phase III Contracts

The end goal to the process exists in Phase III contracts. These are the greater awards that allow companies access to that broader DoD budget. There are many different contract types to consider here, but these are ultimately the awards that make the government a regular customer.

What happens after you are awarded that government contract?

When dealing with the government, the entire contract process can be tedious. There are countless paths to consider, hundreds of pages of fine print to review, and many compliance requirements to take into account. And even that is ONLY if you know what to look for.

This is why Long Capture offers you a team with years of experience in the field. Our team works to get to know your company so that we can determine what you deserve and ensure that the contract you sign best reflects that.

Business Development

Who is your target demographic?

When you are looking to achieve high-level SBIR funding, you will be required to not only describe a target customer but provide one. You will need to identify a customer or end user, and they will have to advocate on your behalf.

Long Capture is a team with years of networking connections. We have developed relationships with a wide array of professional connections who are always seeking innovative technologies. We make it our mission to connect you to end users who are seeking what you have to offer and willing to advocate on your behalf.

Proposal Creation

What is AFWERX looking for in your proposal?

Their criteria are stricter than you may think, and one slight step out of their expectations can get your proposal sent to the reject pile.

Our team of proposal experts has been working with and navigating AFWERX’s shifting criteria for years. We use data from past submissions to remain on top of the current wants so that we can always ensure that your submission stands out from the rest.
